ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at a very particular form of a collaboratory process. It explores the systemic conditions that have supported the emergent evolution of Initiatives of Change (IofC), a global community and movement that has endured over more than seven decades. Each year members converge in Caux, high above Montreux in Switzerland to catalyze dialogue and inspire action to address issues affecting people in communities across the world.

The chapter offers interesting insights in how to create and hold a community space, how to integrate “quiet time” into a community-building process enabling transformation at personal, group and systemic levels. We would love the use of the collaboratory to endure over time. It may be too ambitious to imagine it to be used across decades and continents, but IofC gives us hope of what can unfold when groups of passionate stakeholders meet around an important cause.
