ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors explore organizational interventions as they reduce the negative effects of gender stereotypes on individual achievement. They also explore responsible management education with examples of educational interventions that can make significant differences for undergraduate women business students. Several important studies have demonstrated how effective organizational interventions can be to individual success. The focus on the organizational context rather than on individual psychology is key to shifting individual responses and enabling subsequent social change. The studies focus on perceptions, performance and aspirations—distinct aspects of self that are affected by prejudice and discrimination channelled through the vehicle of societal stereotypes within an organizational context. Despite impressive gains by women, feminine characteristics continue to be less associated with workplace leadership than are masculine qualities, and the pay gap between women and men persists.
