ABSTRACT

Campaigns that pledge to give a portion of the proceeds to breast cancer awareness or plant a tree for every product purchased are examples of cause marketing. Different from green marketing, social marketing is the practice of applying marketing tools and techniques to "sell" a socially desirable behavior, rather than a product. Opportunities for social marketing careers exist at consulting firms and agencies, nonprofit organizations. Other employers include consultancies that work with the major development agencies and global nonprofit organizations working on development issues. Microfinance is the practice of providing banking services to poor and otherwise unbanked customers in developing countries, and is one of the more visible development strategies. Community development organizations work to create jobs, housing, health services, or social programs that serve disadvantaged populations and improve local communities. Like community development, international development is a vast topic, with many different types of employers and career entry points.
