ABSTRACT

It is tempting, as a job seeker, to begin thinking about your job search by thinking about your current skill set and asking, "What kind of sustainability role would be a good candidate for?" But if you start there, you'll only end up doing work that is the same as — or incrementally different from — what you've done already. Just as a company needs to start with its strategic goals before designing an implementation plan to meet those goals, you need to identify your career objectives before you start working on your job search. Write your dream job down on a piece of paper and post it on your mirror or your fridge — somewhere where you can see it every day. It will help you drown out the "noise" of job postings and career activities on campus that threaten to distract you from your goal.
