ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the main areas in which a responsible company can act to improve its relationship with society while taking into account the legislative framework. It examines strategies for social responsibility in the workplace and briefly analyses the fundamental rights of workers: Freedom of association and collective bargaining; Abolition of forced labour and child labour; Elimination of all forms of discrimination in the workplace. The relationship between companies and society is becoming ever more complex. The relationship between fashion and society can be analysed from many points of view: there are several different stakeholders that fall under the main category 'society'. Talking about the balance between a fashion company and society means first talking about fair trade. Fair trade is part of the broader concept of social and environmental responsibility and focuses on the initial phases of the supply chain, decent working conditions and fair commercial terms for farmers and workers in emerging and developing economies.
