ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book talks about change, about change that is happening now – what might be called rapid evolution. It provides five simple points, although the arguments are anything but simple. Five systems changes are now taking place in the evolution of humanity. They are necessary and ineluctable, albeit random and not necessarily synchronistic. The book discusses the all transitionary, nascent, ineluctable and necessary. The personal problem is one of being too close to the subject, too mired in the muck of everyday action and reflection – of taking it too personally. Being active in the fields of corporate responsibility and sustainability sometimes provokes the same sense of frustration. There is the pure thought and the good intention, the action and the inaction.
