ABSTRACT

The feminisation of society and governance is one way of looking at the growth of the idea of social democracy. Social democracy, the organisation of global sport, and the development of global human rights are all examples of the feminisation of society: of a rebalancing of feminine and masculine. Rather than nurturing warlords and warriors, the development of management and life skills increasingly emphasises social capitalisation, negotiation and team building. A feminine society, and feminised management, offers a softer, more caring and nurturing approach which takes into account emotional, social and environmental concerns, alongside economic issues. Femininity in society is described as the dominant values in society are caring for others and quality of life. In The Better Angels of our Nature, Steven Pinker says, ‘feminization is the process in which cultures have increasingly respected the interests and values of women’.
