ABSTRACT

Hewlett-Packard Company, commonly referred to as HP, is an American multinational information technology corporation headquartered in Palo Alto, California. HP specializes in developing and manufacturing computing, data storage, and networking hardware, designing software and delivering services. HP emphasizes a holistic approach to sustainability at each stage of the product or service life-cycle. In 2010, HP China's environmental sustainability efforts increased when it became the only IT company to join the Energy Efficiency Programme, a year-long pilot programme designed to help major suppliers in China reduce energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. HP's experience in China shows that the primary barrier to working with suppliers on GHG emission reduction involves supplier commitment to invest in energy savings. HP periodically visits its suppliers to check the progress of developing programmes. Hewlett-Packard has developed an innovative "green supply chain" in China which has benefited not only the company itself but the many companies that are part of its supply chain in China.
