ABSTRACT

The Federal Reserve fell under the jurisdiction of the Banking Committee, so it was D’Amato’s prerogative to find the truth about the gold’s origin. D’ Amato initiated a series of letters to the Federal Reserve Bank in New York, as well as to the Tripartite Gold Commission in Brussels, to discover the actual content of the gold in New York. Great sums were invested in the banks, with thirteen branches in the United States, the Swiss banks were exposed. The Swiss took one of their first concrete actions to stem the tide of bad press. From the Swiss banks in New York came records originally obtained by Henry Morgenthau’s Treasury investigators and in the National Archives. In 1941, the Swiss Bank Corporation in New York was one of the banks to receive a visit from Morgenthau’s investigators.
