ABSTRACT

Most nations where the political regime is not dictatorial now pos­ sess at least one code of press ethics. From Norway to South Africa, from Japan to Turkey, from Canada to Chile. It is diversely called a code o f honor, o f conduct, o f practice or (in Latin countries) o f “deon­ tology”— or again, canons of journalism, a charter o f journalists, a statement o f principles, a declaration o f the duties and rights o f jour­ nalists, etc.
