Most nations where the political regime is not dictatorial now pos sess at least one code of press ethics. From Norway to South Africa, from Japan to Turkey, from Canada to Chile. It is diversely called a code o f honor, o f conduct, o f practice or (in Latin countries) o f “deon tology”— or again, canons of journalism, a charter o f journalists, a statement o f principles, a declaration o f the duties and rights o f jour nalists, etc.
