ABSTRACT
American history is special, more special than most for the state arises from a society shaped by conviction not birth or breeding, a society of opportunity, accomplishment, and a heritage of triumph, triumph over odds, over nature, over history. America is opportunity made manifest, open, optimistic, competent, a land of freedom, filled with citizens by choice who swiftly become American by nature. Americans expected tomorrow to be better than today, feel that past grievances belongs in the past, look forward to a stable, democratic world order and the end of war, conflict, plague, and privation. Americans so assume all are as one, have similar aspirations and agenda, are disgruntled or violent because they are prevented by the times, by their history, by an oppressor from emulating the American way. America recognized that every nation must deploy military force even when protected and isolated.
