ABSTRACT
The first selection, Ithiel Pool’s “Introduction to Political Commu nication” from the International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences (1968), begins with a brief comment that might be overlooked as an aside. However Pool’s view that “The domain of the study of commu nication can thus legitimately be the entire domain of the social sci ences” is an entrance to his work and to this volume.
