ABSTRACT
In Robert K. Merton’s thought the construction of the concept of sociological ambivalence (hereafter referred to as SA)1 has a special place as a specific notion for a discipline seen as autonomous. Under takings such as this test the capacity of sociology to be considered a science and Merton has undoubtedly offered an original and far-reach ing contribution.
