The Prospects for Democratization in Southeast Asia: Local Perspectives and International Roles

The studies were designed in July of 1992 at a seminar that reviewed perspectives on democratization in Asia and considered the roles of bilateral aid donors in domestic and regional processes of democratization.4 A key objective of the research focus that followed was to examine processes and problems of democratization as issues within individual contexts of political evolution as well as manifestations of the international diffusion and adoption of specific political ideologies, institutions, and practices.
