Managing Renewable Resources in Southeast Asia: The Problem of Deforestation

Asian countries have begun to recognize that such neglect carries a severe price. By the late 1980s, one Southeast Asian government after another was under pressure to take new actions aimed at stemming the degradation of renewable but fragile resources and vital natural support systems. But the momentum of environmental degradation is such that no Southeast Asian country is yet on a development path that is environmentally sustainable.
