ABSTRACT

The climate was that many different strands started to come together: Jimmy Ellis, Orion, the "Elvis Presley Special," the newsletter, and Florida businessmen Steven Crown and Steven C. Chanzes. The record industry was in the throes of a deep depression, having spent millions on disco, later to be mislabeled "dance music." Record sales in 1981 dropped in dollar volume and units shipped. The Florida Secretary of State, Susan Payne, indicated, "records do not reflect that Steve Chanzes is now or was ever an officer, director or incorporator of Eternally Elvis, Inc." Remarkably, Charles Hodge, of Decatur, Alabama, waited nearly two years to file suit in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit in and for Broward County, Florida. The Completely Elvis Fan Club, located in Van Nuys, California, published a scathing editorial by an anonymous writer who captured the mood of many fans, a majority, toward the Elvis Lives contingent.
