Unattributed pieces to follow are, I fear, by me. Most titles assigned to other pieces are mine. Readers will know which items are “sense,” which are “nonsense,” and which are both of these. 1 Excepting the first item and the last, I resort to the alphabetizing device I stumbled upon at the start of Chapter 9. This makes for the vice, familiar to habitues of dictionaries, of constantly changing the subject. On the other hand: Here’s to Chaos! (For William F. Fry, humor may be construed as a chaotic phenomenon to be played with and to serve as entertainment, in contrast to the frustrations that stem from contemplating natural chaos, which is in any case beyond our control. 2 )
