ABSTRACT

In this first session after the summer interruption, patient speaks of having done beautifully, and then proceeds with examples that tend to deny this. There was considerable intellectual discussion about the conflict between his “idealistic” values and his original family’s “materialistic” values, and his recognition of the relationship of rage and guilt toward his brother. When therapist related patient’s rage to his unresolved dependency-independence conflict vis-à-vis his original family circle, patient readily agreed. Therapist terminated the session abruptly and somewhat early.
