ABSTRACT

Yervant Alexanian, after all of his trials and tribulations, established himself in the United States and began prospering. In 1920, when he first landed in the New World, he intended to become a French teacher at the high school or college level, but, not having the luxury of time, since his siblings who had immigrated to the United States before him needed his financial help, instead ended up getting a job at the B. Altman Department Store as a tailor. Meanwhile, he endeavored to perfect his English, receiving a graduation diploma from P.S. 55 in the Bronx on October 13, 1932, making English the fourth language that he was fluent in, after Armenian, Turkish, and French. Yervant received his certificate of American citizenship on August 15, 1929.
