ABSTRACT

“I don’t care what you say,” Mrs. Jones said to the police Captain, “we don’t see any police patrolling in our community. I can sit on my porch for hours and not see one squad car. It is obvious that the pO-lice,” she emphasized, “don’t care nothin about us!” The room began to erupt in a smattering of applause and cries of “Amen,” “That’s right!” and “You tell ’em, Mrs. Jones!” But Mrs. Jones did not need any encouragement. She was just getting warmed up.
