Inevitably one must cope with the word “authentic.” Writers are seldom completely honest when they use it They write as if they were much more lonely, much more besieged, than they are. They keep a major premise hidden from sight. There will be great resistance to bringing it to light. It strips away the defiant heroism, the raging at the night.
