ABSTRACT

The Internet provides a space where women can both produce and consume sexual representations. It allows women (1) to feel physically safe through geographic distance and the ability to dis connect at any time, (2) to experience freedom from censure through anonymity and interaction with strangers, and (3) to be sheltered from exploitation in amateur and interest-group sex entertainment. Women are able to participate in what is probably the safest sex available and, in so doing, to explore their sexuality and investigate ways of representing the erotic.
