ABSTRACT

It was graduation day. Ned had successfully completed his kindergarten correspondence course from Australia, and we were going to celebrate. The course was an excellent one. He had mastered basic mathematical concepts and, most exciting of all, had learned to read. While Elizabeth and I made him a mortar-board cap from my typing paper with a prestigious purple tassel purloined from a Japanese fan, Joyce prepared diplomas for both children. Elizabeth was graduating from my “nursery school,” where she practiced drawing and printing in my screen tent while Joyce and Ned worked on his lessons.
