ABSTRACT

To anyone old enough to remember manual typewriters and colorless tele­ vision pictures, it should be apparent that a wave of changes has overtaken the experience of daily life in America. Cable television, satellite dishes, video­ cassette players, compact discs, radar detectors, automatic teller machines, answering machines, copy machines, fax machines, multi use telephones, and personal computers populate the topography of nearly every American’s fa­ miliar terrain.
