ABSTRACT

To seize the future, humanity must dedicate its brains, its hands, and certainly its spirit and will. This chapter explores how breakthroughs in art, music, and literature can accompany and possibly condition innovations in the sciences. In the Macroindustrial Era, it will be incumbent on all artists to examine and determine to what extent their work helps create an atmosphere of societal and personal growth and development. A creative artistic milieu conditions growth in other societal sectors, artists need not become cheerleaders of the new Macroindustrial Era. The prime purpose of education is to prepare people for roles in the emerging Macroindustrial Era, as scientists, engineers, business people, social scientists, even creative artists. Science and educational institutions and manufacturers of computer technology should be encouraging the idea of "everyman as scientist". As technology eliminates pollution and toxicity from the air, water, and the soil, humankind will realize that material progress and technological sophistication are the best environmental policies of all.
