ABSTRACT

The rapid acceleration of the rate of invention, the enhanced application of the innovations, and the substantive superiority of current technological breakthroughs over past accomplishments require a new label: hyperprogress. Hyperprogress will occur only if the species transforms current methods of producing goods, machines, parts, and materials. The emerging Era's productive capacity will very much depend on the development of macromanufacturing, the large-scale production of individualized and customized goods. Computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) not only allows entire industrial plants to automate production, but facilitates rapid transformation of the entire production line so that quite different and highly customized products can be manufactured in the same factory. Hyperprogress will be a landmark characteristic of the Macroindustrial Era. However, the rewards of hyperprogress are such that once the population comprehends the immeasurable benefits from such improvements, they will certainly accept the individual and societal effort necessary to achieve the marvels.
