ABSTRACT

A number of diagnostic procedures are used in clinics when time and resources are available. A diagnostician would be most secure in his conclusions had he been able to see the patient during his childhood and formative years, and were he able to see him in action in normal social situations. Even more important, the diagnostician has no way of knowing how meaningful the results are for any specific individual. Whenever a person roleplays he demonstrates his unique personality, giving others a diagnostic impression. Roleplaying can be used to obtain information about how a person operates and how a person sees himself. When roleplaying is used for diagnostic purposes, the therapist is able to locate specific areas of difficulty, which in turn permits him to direct his attention to delimited areas of treatment. For roleplaying treatment, roleplaying diagnosis is most satisfactory.
