ABSTRACT
Mill went to France in 1820 and stayed there for a year with the family of Sir Samuel Bentham; he studied the French language, French literature, politics, chemistry, botany, and advanced math ematics. When he returned from France his father introduced him to Jeremy Bentham’s thinking, which deeply impressed him. He studied Roman Law under John Austin and continued his studies in psy chology at that time, too.
