ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses what some of the targets of Project Haven, particularly Burt Kanter and the Pritzkers, have been doing. It explains the developments in the “underground economy,” which has been rapidly expanding across the globe. As far as the serious crime community and the underground economy are concerned, the past decade and a half has been an age of stunning expansion marked by the bilking of US Savings & Loans institutions, by the long run of BCCI, and by the financial monkey-business of the Iran/Contra and Iraq-gate scandals. As for the rest, it was the underground economy that counted and its success was based upon organized crime. Social mobility in the Communist party resembled social mobility in a very large organized crime syndicate. As far as Burt Kanter is concerned, the chapter explores his relationship with Swiss banker and oil man Bruce Rappaport whose activities are global.
