ABSTRACT

The best way to approach satire, if you want to enjoy it, is to take a firm grasp of that phrase “make fun of.” No satirist is so bitter that he is not making fun. And the person, thing or institution of which he is making fun may occupy a whole range of positions from that of mere pretext for a laugh to that of mortal enemy to be slain with ridicule if possible—and if not, then cleave him with a heavier weapon.
