ABSTRACT

Scholarly publishing is a one-by-one affair no less than a one-on-one affair-and that goes for every stage in the process of publishing. Publishing is the sort of business equivalent to writing poetry. It is done because seemingly no other way of life can offer a satisfactory alternative. Publishers always prefer to emphasize success in a review of books published one can and must review failures as well. International Publishers was not simply the vehicle of awful trash, but it sounded worse in English than in the original Russian-given the nature of the languages, and no less, the availability of alternatives. The experience with accepting money from an author to publish confronts the publisher with a bundle of problems pros and cons. These are the money can be used to put out an otherwise non-publishable good title, the money can offset losses on older titles, the money can simply be viewed as a reward for doing good works.
