ABSTRACT

Rational legal legitimation by means of a formal democratic process will continue into the future. The survival of morality is closely bound up with the future fate of individualism in general. Films are a constituent part of a global culture, and they mostly consist of blockbusters produced in Hollywood for world distribution. Global culture will inescapably become the main culture of the future for nearly all people on earth. The childishness and immaturity that Benjamin Barber has identified as characteristic of people growing up in a consumer society amidst global culture will be even more pronounced in coming generations. Standing in the way of any such movements and contributing massively to the erosion of community is global culture. It fosters the consumerist lifestyle that militates against local culture and the social forms that sustain it. Local culture does not simply mean that of the narrow locality, such as the village, neighborhood, region, or single city.
