ABSTRACT

The world is heading towards closer integration and unity as it is dominated by the several types who spearhead the Forces of Modernity. The creation of new products and even whole new industries results from this in advance states; in backward states, training a labor force for technical manufacturing processes and thereby attracting multinational enterprises becomes the key concern of governments. The trial of Galileo before the Inquisition in Rome was a paradigmatic event; it pitted one such solitary individual against the obscurantist forces of the Catholic Church. The apocryphal comment he made after he was forced to recant, “eppur si muove,” was taken to symbolize the indomitable spirit of scientific truth asserting itself against imposed religious falsehoods. Reflecting on this theoretically, it might be thought that Marx has been proven right—the forces of production, namely technology, act as the locomotive driving forward all other changes.
