ABSTRACT

Derush is the narrative element that occupies the axial role in the PaRDeS multiple hermeneutic pendulum. This chapter deals with the problem of narrative derush and its relationship to rationality and truth and addresses the possibility of narrative re-biographing as a pivotal element in the PaRDeS therapy system. In both cases the fables are being used as narrative derushic metacodes that help people maintain a coherent biographic identity. The chapter demonstrates how King David's contraction metacode is being used by a contemporary role model for combating identity disintegration. It attempts to use a paradoxical technique in order to verify whether and how Reb Osher used derushic contraction as a role-modeling metacode for re-biographing. The chapter explains the epitomizing role model for re-and pre-biographing grounded in the derushic narrative necessary for bridging between one's fear of the mystic world of sod and the realistic life of peshat.
