ABSTRACT

after my visit to our old apartment in Schöneberg, I drove to the Schiffbauerdamm theater to pick up Hildegard. When I got to the stage door, the elderly porter saluted me and said: “Fräulein U. is waiting for you inside, Sir.” Hildegard flew into my arms, and we kissed and kissed. It didn’t seem to bother her that some of her colleagues were watching us carrying on. Though ecstatic to hold her in my arms again, I felt embarrassed at making a spectacle of myself and gently pushed her away.
