ABSTRACT

Crime control in capitalist society is accomplished by a variety of methods, strategies, and institutions. The government, especially through its legislative bodies, establishes official policies of crime control. The new crime legislation initially assisted state and local governments in trying more effectively to assure domestic order by increasing the effectiveness of law enforcement and criminal administration. Law Enforcement Assistance Administration is attempting to maximize the possibility of building a comprehensive national crime control program under the guise of decentralization. The modern phase of the legal order in the United States is characterized by greater centralization of crime control and a much more organized and effective form of legal repression. The President's Crime Commission included in its coverage of the crime problem a special Task Force Report on Science and Technology. The technological war on crime has been launched. The military strategy toward domestic disorder now prevails.
