ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book deals with the discussions surrounding both the reexamination of the history of National Socialist property theft and employment of forced labor in the wartime economy, and the various compensation and restitution solutions in different European and Latin American countries since 1945. It focuses on the concrete analytical work of the historical commissions, entitled “Commissioned History.” The book then addresses the theme of forced labor. It also relates to “National Socialist Theft: Banking, Industry, Insurance and Works of Art.” The book focuses on a discussion entitled “From the Myth of Gold to Broad Debate on Restitution: Restitution and Compensation in Comparative European Context.” It then deals with Latin American issues starts with research in Austrian archives on migration to Argentina and elsewhere in connection with specific Austrian nationals who were part of that influx or aided others to land in Buenos Aires.
