ABSTRACT

Religious advocates have often foregone the dignity of religion by leaping on every neutral or occasionally positive comment about religion from scientists. The result of too eagerly pursuing reconciliation is that religious belief is redefined in terms amenable to a rationalist and naturalistic point of view which neglects the truth of religious doctrine and lessens its impact and integrity. Religion has a legitimate standing of its own in human history as an institution and in its influence on individual human beings that is profound and irreplaceable. Islam is a post-Trinitarian religion and its long history and huge number of believers worldwide testifies to its importance. A conflict between science and religion cannot arise if there is no essential difference between God and the physical universe. The presumed course of science history is that increasing accumulation of accurate data upon which scientific laws are erected eventuates over time in laws of more complexity which encompass more and different types of phenomena.
