ABSTRACT

Textbooks reflect a society’s prevailing attitudes and opinions. It is also possible to view them as agents that play an important role in the socio-cultural processes taking place in the schools, as do other factors that influence the society in general. The fierce polemic that has been going on in Israel since the early 1990s regarding the content of these books, especially in the field of Zionist-Jewish history, bears witness to the importance—perhaps exaggerated—of this matter in Israel.
