ABSTRACT

One evening M. Escaro, a member of the staff of Le Canard Enchaine, happened to notice some strange plumbers at work in that journal's new offices in the Rue St Honore. It turned out that they had not been repairing the pipes, but had been installing microphones in the chimneypiece; and the men were later identified as agents of the security service. Three years after the affair, which caused a great sensation, Judge Pinsseau has dismissed the journal's action at a hearing held at a date that very nearly prevented the plaintiff from appealing. In the hope of depriving them of this opportunity; all the usual practices were omitted. The judge held that in the absence of a confrontation no one could be personally charged with the offense; then, on the other hand, he held that no offense had been committed.
