ABSTRACT

The use of terror in Iran against foreign targets situated on its soil constitutes an integral and even central component of the Iranian view of terror as an essential tool for promoting its political goals. The most prominent example of terror against a foreign target on Iranian soil is the invasion of the US Embassy in Teheran. The revolutionary regime in Iran demonstrated a basic ideological hostility towards the United States— "the Great Satan." The US capitulation to several of the Iranian conditions was perceived by the Iranian regime as a victory and as proof of the ability of a small but determined country to bring the United States "to its knees." In the majority of cases, the Iranians aspire to export the weapons in various ways, and the cell that is charged with the mission of perpetrating the attack receives the weapons in the country of destination.
