ABSTRACT

Being the editor of several festschriften, contributor to at least a dozen others, publisher of yet eighteen more, and, lo, the recipient of one, I have developed a hard set of standards for participation in or publication of this odd literary duck, often found drifting among the academic swans. Let me outline my personal criteria quickly before addressing Peter Shaw, the real and worthy subject of this essay. The outline may be salutary in that Peter is a model for such an exercise, meeting all my criteria handily.
