ABSTRACT
I have a dual relationship to this work and to this man: Transaction is the publisher of Survival and Sociology. And as president of this firm, I am ultimately responsible for accepting this work for publication. I am honored to have done so. At the same time, my comments as an academic sociologist require a more critical, or at least, a different type of appraisal than one provided in a decision to issue a new title.
