ABSTRACT

This chapter presents perspectives gathered through interviews with representatives of biomedical communities in academe and industry that although not directly associated with NIH, nonetheless maintain close institutional collaborative research relations with or receive fund ing from NIH. Among those interviewed were U.S. university bio medical faculty and American and foreign graduate science students, as well as representatives of biomedical associations and of biotech nology firms. The views of these individuals complement those of persons who have been directly linked to NIH and add further dimen sions to the understanding of NIH’s role in biomedical research, glo balization and international migration.
