ABSTRACT

These two quotes illustrate two different outlooks on the mean ing of war as a factor in the personal biography of the speaker. They were culled from life stories of two Israeli men who participated in the 1973 Yom Kippur War as part of their regular military service. Both were combat soldiers, from a similar sociocultural background. The two men look retrospectively on their war experience of fifteen years ago, trying to evaluate its place in and importance to their life stories.
