ABSTRACT

Development means different things to different people. To most economists, development means a sustained growth in per capita income. This measurement is the one which most accurately differentiates living standards among countries. Jobs are just as contentious a political issue in the United States today as they are in Latin America. Every citizen should have the ability and right to earn his livelihood. As a rule, it is found that projects generating the highest number of jobs coincide with crops which create the highest value added per hectare. In agriculture, the highest value added comes from intensive farming typically associated with floriculture and horticulture. Neighbors began planting the same crops and a freezing plant was built across the street. The whole crop pattern in the neighboring farms was changed. Historically, virtually all of the world’s developed economies graduated from prolonged stagnation to growth through new export industries.
