ABSTRACT
The Word Predestination is so well understood by all Parties, that it would be superfluous to explain it further. That this is a Doctrine openly laid down in the Gospel is evident to all that can read; that it is likewise attended with Difficulties inexplicable to human Reason, is as undeniable. This chapter demonstrates on the one hand that the Assertors of humane Liberty, the Socinians not excepted, have not removed the Difficulty as to the Origin of Evil; and on the other, that all the Solution and Arguments of the Predestinarians, drawn from human Reason have hitherto been insufficient to answer the Objections that have been made to them. The Doctrine of several Principles, which is now known by the Name of Manicheism, has often violently disturb’d the Peace of the Church.
