ABSTRACT

Inquiry is an inevitably cooperative enterprise. We may stand on our own feet, but they never manage to find bedrock here, seeing that we always stand on the shoulders of others. Unfortunately, however, we live in an era of relativism. “To each his own” and “I did it my way” figure among the mottos of the day. In the prevailing circum stances, all too few of us manage to come to the realization that in cognitive matters this is a profoundly mistaken approach.
