ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the implications of National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being findings from a treatment perspective with an overall focus on children and adolescents involved with child welfare services during their school years from age 6. It utilizes findings from several evidence-based bodies of literature related to the provision of treatment services for the purpose of ameliorating psychosocial and developmental problems. The chapter focuses on the predominantly on services that would be categorized as "indicated," and children and adolescents in their school years. It includes a review of evidence related to the need for ameliorative services and what is known from research studies about the provision of such services. Considerable thinking and limited research in both the adult and child mental health fields are addressing the complexities and challenges of bringing evidence-based interventions into usual care settings. Parent-mediated interventions refers to a interventions class that focus on the skills that adult caregivers of children bring to their role as either biological or substitute parents.
