ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to review theoretical perspectives on family norms and preferences regarding intergenerational obligations and to present empirical findings from a cross-national five-country study: four European countries (Germany, Norway, Spain, and the United Kingdom) and Israel. The five countries represent different family cultures and dif ferent welfare regimes.
